Author Guidelines

Introduction

Translational Dermatology is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research that advances the understanding, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of skin diseases through translational and clinical investigation.

Authors are encouraged to carefully review these guidelines before manuscript submission. Manuscripts that do not comply with the journal requirements may be returned for technical revision prior to peer review. 

Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following article categories:

Original Research Articles

Reports of novel clinical, translational, laboratory, epidemiological, or health services research.

  • Structured Abstract: up to 300 words
  • Main Text: up to 5000 words
  • References: up to 50
  • Tables/Figures: maximum 8

Review Articles

Comprehensive reviews of current knowledge in dermatology and related disciplines.

  • Abstract: up to 300 words
  • Main Text: up to 7000 words
  • References: up to 100

Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses

Must follow PRISMA guidelines.

  • Abstract: Structured
  • Main Text: up to 7000 words

Clinical Trials

Must be prospectively registered in a recognized clinical trial registry.

Brief Reports

Short communications presenting important preliminary findings.

  • Abstract: up to 200 words
  • Main Text: up to 2500 words

Case Reports

Rare, educational, or clinically significant cases.

  • Abstract: up to 150 words
  • Main Text: up to 2000 words
  • References: up to 20

Letters to the Editor

Comments on published articles or brief scientific observations.

  • Up to 1000 words
  • Maximum 10 references

Manuscript Preparation

Title Page

The title page should include:

  • Full manuscript title
  • Running title (maximum 50 characters)
  • Full names of all authors
  • Institutional affiliations
  • ORCID IDs (recommended)
  • Corresponding author information
  • Email address and telephone number

Abstract

For Original Articles, Clinical Trials, and Systematic Reviews, a structured abstract should contain:

  • Background
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

Keywords (3–6 terms) should be listed below the abstract using MeSH terminology whenever possible.

Main Text

Original research manuscripts should be organized as follows:

  1. Introduction
  2. Materials and Methods
  3. Results
  4. Discussion
  5. Conclusion
  6. Acknowledgments (if applicable)
  7. Funding
  8. Conflict of Interest
  9. References

Ethical Considerations

All studies involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki.

Authors must provide:

  • Ethics Committee approval number
  • Name of approving institution
  • Informed consent statement when applicable

Clinical photographs that allow patient identification require written informed consent.

Animal studies must follow internationally accepted ethical standards and institutional regulations.

Clinical Trial Registration

Clinical trials must be registered in a publicly accessible registry before participant enrollment.

The registration number should be included in the manuscript.

Reporting Guidelines

Authors should follow internationally recognized reporting standards:

  • CONSORT for randomized clinical trials
  • STROBE for observational studies
  • PRISMA for systematic reviews and meta-analyses
  • CARE for case reports
  • ARRIVE for animal studies
  • SRQR or COREQ for qualitative research

Relevant checklists should be submitted with the manuscript.

Figures and Tables

  • Figures should be submitted in high-resolution format (minimum 300 dpi).
  • Patient-identifying information must be removed.
  • Tables should be editable and not embedded as images.
  • All figures and tables must be cited within the text.

References

The journal follows the Vancouver referencing style.

Authors are responsible for ensuring reference accuracy.

References should be numbered consecutively according to their first appearance in the text.

Authorship Criteria

Authorship should comply with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

All authors must have substantially contributed to:

  • Study conception or design;
  • Data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation;
  • Manuscript drafting or critical revision;
  • Final approval of the submitted version.

Conflict of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts of interest that could influence the work.

Funding Statement

All sources of funding and financial support must be clearly declared.

Data Availability

Authors are encouraged to provide a Data Availability Statement describing where supporting data can be accessed.

Open Access Policy

Translational Dermatology publishes all articles under an open-access model, ensuring immediate and free availability of published content to readers worldwide.

Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo:

  1. Initial editorial assessment
  2. Double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers
  3. Editorial decision based on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal scope

The Editor-in-Chief has final responsibility for publication decisions.

Submission Checklist

Before submission, authors should ensure:

✓ Ethics approval has been obtained when required

✓ Conflict of interest statement is included

✓ Funding information is provided

✓ Figures and tables are appropriately prepared

✓ References are formatted according to Vancouver style
